Program: Renovation and additions to existing church facility focusing on accessibility and flexibility
Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church
During initial stages of programming, the congregation worked with TKWA to create a set of twenty principles to guide the design of their worship space. These principles included a self-assessment of how well each need was currently being met by the existing church. Completing this document helped to identify building needs and establish construction priorities.
The church’s original entryway was reconfigured to make a more suitable transitional space separate from the worship space. This new entry created a ‘gradient of spaces’ less disruptive to others and helped prepare visitors for the experience of worship. A beautiful glass wall now wraps around the entry porch. Additional modifications include reconfigured seating in the church interior to increase flexibility and a redesign of the chancel to create unobstructed views and open it up more into the worship space.
