Program: Master plan and construction for an expansion of an existing church, with a focus on increasing gathering space and improving efficiency
Trinity United Church of Christ
TKWA was hired to develop a multi-phase master plan for design and construction of a variety of major structural changes to this suburban Milwaukee church. The priorities for Phase I included a larger Gathering Hall; consolidation of a variety of church services under one roof; and remodeling and expansion of the kitchen/dining hall. Phase II reoriented the worship space, bringing the nave and chancel closer together and creating a greater sense of connectedness without compromising seating capacity.
An outdoor courtyard formed by the addition of a new parlor/library and nursery opposite a long covered walkway extending to the driveway creates a quiet and peaceful transitional space that separates cars and the outside world from the inner life of the church. Historic bronze bells from the original, yet deteriorating, tower form the centerpiece of a landmark new Bell Tower and Steeple.
