Program: Design of Two Pedestrian Bridges for Urban Park
Three Bridges Park
As part of the highly anticipated redevelopment of the Menomonee Valley into a recreational corridor, TKWA was hired to design two of the three new bike/pedestrian bridges incorporated into Three Bridges Park. Constructed of Cor-Ten steel with concrete pillars the TKWA-designed bridges – with spans of 270 feet and 162 feet – provide attractive new linkages between Milwaukee’s near South Side neighborhoods and the Menomonee Valley.
Offering approximately two miles of paved trails, the 24-acre park is part of the Hank Aaron State Trail. The new park also offers naturalized habitat for birds and other wildlife, fishing and canoeing access to the Milwaukee River, hiking trails, and community gardens. Milwaukee’s Urban Ecology Center will also use the park and trail system as an outdoor classroom.
The bridges were constructed with funds provided by the Wisconsin State Department of Transportation.
