Soldier’s Home Chapel

The Soldiers Home Foundation plans to reopen the historic 1889 Chapel located within the National Soldiers Home Historic District for veteran use and funerals, as well as VA and visiting chaplain use, historic displays, weddings and other ceremonies, and multi-denominational, patriotic, and educational community events.

The foundation hired TKWA to execute an Historic Structures Report, which lays the groundwork for restoration by providing a determination of alterations to the Chapel over time, prioritizing repairs, and providing cost estimates. Restoration efforts (for a building unoccupied since the early 1990s) will touch every surface. A small addition is proposed to address ADA-compliant toilet rooms. Construction documents for Phase I: Roof and Tower Restoration are complete and await construction.
