Harley-Davidson Corporate Offices

The challenge of this project was to complete the work at or below the cost typically paid by the client to renovate office space, while incorporating the Harley-Davidson image into the design.
In order to preserve the machine shop character of the building and keep cost to a minimum, objects were reused and recycled wherever possible. Wayfinding is enhanced by an overhead “spine” fabricated of pipe, double angle steel, and perforated steel lay-in panels. Existing yellow overhead hoist rails were preserved, and plumbing and HVAC ducts were exposed. Perforated fluorescent fixtures are aimed upward to wash the ceiling and provide indirect lighting to avoid reflections on computer screens. Existing machine shop gear was retained wherever possible, and Harley-Davidson parts are used as sculptural objects. Industrial tables with wood laminated tops function as conference room tables.
Harley-Davidson wears its heavy iron, no-nonsense image proudly, and this design solution pays homage to the company’s character while offering a functional and cost-effective office environment.
