Vivo Urban Grill
Milwaukee, WI
Formerly the site of a prominent local German restaurant, the new owners wanted to convert this space into a casual new restaurant that would attract both a working lunch crowd and after hours dining. The Kubala Washatko Architects, Inc. were asked to help transform the building interior and create a rich, contemporary, Latin-influenced atmosphere.

The challenge was to take three distinct interior main level spaces and bind them together into a cohesive whole. Tall doors and windows helped introduce daylight deep into the interior. A central bar became the main feature of the restaurant. The kitchen was redesigned as an independent, smaller space within the larger central room. Existing wood trusses were sandblasted and clear finished. Warm, autumnal, natural colors were used throughout. The difficult lower level was made more inviting and intimate with bright colors and vertical lighting.
