Cox's Harley-Davidson
Rock Hill, SC
Like a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, this building uses honest, authentic and durable materials along with exposed structure to reinforce the industrial heritage of the brand. Countertops and casework made of reclaimed wood flooring and corrugated metal siding hearken back to an industrial era yet are durable enough to withstand motorcycle parts being passed across them, actually developing character over time. Precast concrete wall panels were left exposed and painted in a bold red color, and stained concrete flooring was chosen for its resistance to yellowing from tires and its ability to hold up to kickstands.
The client required a flexible showroom to accommodate ever-changing display needs, and this need was answered by a continuous floor finish, which allows bikes and fixtures to be easily relocated. Additonally, accent track lighting at key points in the store helps to shape and define spaces within the larger volume.
The building’s exterior aesthetic is echoed in the materials used for the interior finishes, as in the partitions, wood paneled walls, aluminum storefront, and steel beams.
