Bachrach
12 Oaks Mall, Novi, MI
The client, a well established retail chain founded in 1877, wished to create a new store image more in keeping with the high quality level of their merchandise. They requested a “unique, warm male environment that is comfortable.”
Because Bachrach is a Midwest-based company, we chose a “prairie” approach, with horizontal lines cutting through the vertical proportions and extensive use of wood throughout. A generous ceiling height, exceptionally tall doors and strong vertical elements help to give the space grandeur and elegance. High quality materials and fixtures were used. Floors are natural oak, stained black at the borders and showcase windows. The storefront bases are a pigmented fiberglass material cast from molds made from cut stone, a system which offers enhanced material durability and ease of fabrication while assuring an authentic look.
A cubist mural was commissioned to create visual interest at the cash wrap while a predominance of downlighting distinguishes the stores central “room” from the entry area at the front and suit room toward the rear. Instead of physical partitions, lighting scheme variations are used to separate one area from another and enhance the suit room’s “destination” quality.
