Lakeshore State Park Visitor and Education Center
Prominently located along the Milwaukee shoreline, Lakeshore State Park is the newest state park in Wisconsin and the only state park located in an urban setting. Built using rock from Milwaukee’s most important water quality infrastructure project – the MMSD Deep Tunnel – the park is one of very few ‘islands’ created entirely from human hand. Today, this 22-acre park has become a popular destination for city residents and visitors who enjoy the park’s open spaces and panoramic views of water and sky. TKWA was hired to design a new 5,000sf Visitor and Education Center that meets the rigorous environmental standards of the Living Building Challenge, including Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Water.
