Chippewa Nature Center
One of the largest and most prominent private, non-profit facilities of its type in the United States, Chippewa Nature Center is situated on over 1,200 wooded, riverfront acres in Midland, Michigan. The Center asked TKWA to help develop a facility renovation and expansion master plan that accommodates additional childhood education capacity, as well as reconfiguration of existing the existing space.
The new Chippewa Nature Center will implement innovative ways of dealing with rainwater runoff through the use of rain gardens, bio-swales, and geo-thermal heating and cooling systems. These solutions will provide a foundation for environmental education programs by creating a model of green design.
